GetVDO

How to Use GetVDO

A complete guide to checking a public video link, choosing the right format, downloading on your device, and fixing common link or format problems.

Quick start

GetVDO works in three basic steps: copy a public video URL, paste it into the matching downloader, then choose one of the formats returned for that exact link.

1. Copy the public video link

Open the video or post on Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or X. Use Share → Copy link. Use the actual post/video URL, not text copied from a caption.

2. Paste the URL into GetVDO

Open the downloader that matches the platform, paste the URL and press Download. GetVDO analyzes the public source first; it does not start downloading immediately.

3. Complete the security check

Analysis requests are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile. A successful analysis creates a short-lived download authorization tied to that exact URL.

4. Review the video information

Check title, uploader, duration, thumbnail and maximum quality. The format list comes from the source; GetVDO cannot create a quality the source does not expose.

5. Choose a format

Select Best Quality, HD, SD or Audio Only. The exact options depend on the platform and the public media source.

6. Save the file

Your browser starts the download. The final location is usually Downloads, or the Files app on iPhone/iPad.

Supported links and important limits

GetVDO is for individual public links that are normally accessible without signing in. It does not bypass private accounts, login restrictions, paywalls, deleted posts, live streams or playlist access controls.

Facebook

Public video and Reel URLs, including normal facebook.com links and fb.watch redirects.

YouTube

Public watch URLs, youtu.be links and youtube.com/shorts URLs.

TikTok

Public /video/ URLs plus vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com share links.

Instagram

Public post/video and /reel/ URLs that are accessible without a private-account login.

X

Public x.com or twitter.com status/post URLs that expose an accessible media source.

What each download option means

Best Quality

Uses the highest accessible quality. It can take longer when separate video/audio streams must be merged or remuxed.

HD

Prioritizes a practical HD format when available. Usually the better option for speed and broad playback compatibility.

SD

A smaller file when an accessible SD source exists. Useful for limited storage or slower connections.

Audio Only

Downloads an accessible audio stream as M4A when available. It is not available for every source.

Where downloads go on each device

iPhone / iPad

Use Safari when possible. Finished files normally appear in Files → Downloads. If a social app opens an in-app browser, copy the link and open GetVDO directly in Safari.

Android

Use Chrome or another modern browser. Find the file in the browser Downloads view or the device Downloads folder.

Windows

Chrome, Edge and Firefox normally save to Downloads unless you changed the download location.

macOS

Safari and Chrome normally save to Downloads. Open Finder → Downloads.

How to copy the correct link

Facebook

Video/Reel → Share → Copy link. If a short link fails, open it in a browser and copy the final Facebook URL after redirect.

YouTube

Video/Short → Share → Copy link. Regular videos may use watch or youtu.be links; Shorts commonly use /shorts/.

TikTok

Video → Share → Copy link. vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com short URLs are accepted; if redirect fails, use the final /video/ URL.

Instagram

Public post/Reel → Share → Copy link. Private-account media is not bypassed.

X

Post with video → Share → Copy link to post. Use the status/post URL.

Troubleshooting

Unsupported or invalid link

Confirm the URL is from a supported platform and points to one specific public video/post. Remove accidental spaces and copy the link again.

Video requires login or is private

Open the URL in an incognito window. If the source itself requires login, GetVDO will not bypass that requirement.

Best Quality is slow

High-resolution sources can separate video and audio, requiring additional processing before the file is ready.

A quality option is missing

Formats are discovered from the public source at analysis time. Different videos can expose different resolutions and codecs.

Download authorization expired

Analyze the URL again. Download authorization is intentionally short-lived and tied to the analyzed URL.

Download button does nothing

Allow downloads for getvdo.com and disable an overly aggressive popup/download blocker for the site, then analyze again.

A short social link fails

Open the short link in your browser, wait for the redirect to finish and copy the final canonical post/video URL.

Install GetVDO for faster repeat use

On supported browsers, GetVDO can be installed as a PWA. After a successful analysis, an Install GetVDO action may appear. On supported Android devices, an installed GetVDO can receive URLs from the system Share sheet.

Chrome Extension

GetVDO Quick Downloader uses activeTab only when you explicitly click it plus a context-menu permission. It does not run a content script on every website. Clicking it opens the matching GetVDO platform page with the current URL filled in.

Privacy and responsible use

Download only media you own or have permission to use. A public URL does not automatically grant permission to republish copyrighted work. GetVDO does not bypass platform privacy or access controls.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install software?

No. The web downloader works in a modern browser. PWA installation and the Chrome extension are optional.

Why must I analyze before downloading?

Analysis verifies the public source, discovers available formats and creates a short-lived authorization bound to that URL.

Can I use GetVDO for private content?

No. Private, login-required or otherwise restricted sources are not bypassed.

Why do videos show different quality choices?

Available resolution, codec and audio formats depend on each public source.
